Heel Pain

Heel Pain

Feeling pain in your heel first thing in the morning? This may indicate an underlying biomechanical issue such as excessively pronated feet, also referred to as “flat feet”. Undiagnosed it can become debilitating, chronic and increasingly difficult to resolve in a shorter timeframe.
Most common causes of heel pain
Plantar Fasciitis- is the inflammation of the ligamentous band of connective tissue running along the sole of the foot stabilising and supporting the arch of the foot. Often worse after rest and when first standing in the morning. It is quite common in people who are highly active, athletes and do lots of standing/walking for work. E.g. Hairdressers, hospitality workers.
Achilles Tendonitis- inserting at the back of the heel, it can become inflamed due to poor/inappropriate footwear, “flat feet” and overuse among other reasons which our team would be happy to discuss with you.
Sever’s Disease- is the inflammation of the growth plate in the heel bone, a common overuse injury in active children having a rapid growth spurt.
After a thorough biomechanical examination, forms of treatment may include footwear review/advice, custom made orthotic therapy, lifestyle modifications, foot mobilisation, dry needling, muscle stretching and strengthening programme, education on managing the condition.
