Knee Pain
Knee pain can often be due to biomechanical issues of the foot. A poor gait and unstable foot structure can increase and transfer ground and torsional forces unevenly through not only the knee but also ankle, hips and lower back.
The most common condition in active adolescents is Osgood Schlatter’s – inflammation of the patella tendon at it’s insertion on the tibia (shin bone) growth plate. Typically an overuse injury where lots of running and jumping is involved. E.g. Soccer, basketball, rugby etc.
For the rest of the population poor foot biomechanics may lead to premature onset of degenerative changes in the knee joint such as osteoarthritis.
