Plantar Fasciitis

Heel pain most often occurring after periods of rest involving the connective tissue/fascia that inserts into the base of the heel.
Some of the risk factors include:
  • being overweight
  • poor footwear
  • poor foot biomechanics (overpronation/flat feet)
  • high impact activities such as running/jumping, sports.
The symptoms may seem innocuous at first but if left untreated it can become chronic and take longer to resolve. A bone/calcaneal spur can develop but this may not necessarily become painful.
Once diagnosed a biomechanical examination is performed to determine your treatment programme. It may include a combination of the following: review and advice of footwear, orthotics, taping, dry needling, massage, muscle strength and stretching programme.
